The GDC Surgical Instruments has a gently tapered, blunt tip and is generally more delicate. Than the Mayo Hegar but slightly less delicate than Webster, Halsey, or DeBakey needle holders. The ratcheted finger ring handle aids in securing needles for both continuous and interrupted closures.
- Used to grasp suture needles during suturing when pushing/pulling the needle and suture through tissue.
- It has short serrated jaws at the distal end to provide a better grip of the needle.
- It is available in a wide variety of sizes and designs.

The forceps has a ratchet locking system; the terminal end of the blades bears short teeth. The teeth have grooves in between so that when the two blades meet. One tooth of the blade fits in the groove of the other blade.
